5 Surprising Ways to Use Salt This Summer

Jul 29, 2026

You already know salt belongs in the kitchen. But this summer, we're challenging you to think beyond the salt shaker.

From fresh fruit and frozen treats to cocktails and warm-weather hydration, salt can be used in some surprisingly delicious ways!

Here are five ways to use salt beyond the stovetop this summer...

1. Rim Your Summer Drinks

Margaritas are only the beginning.

Flavored salts can add an unexpected finish to cocktails and mocktails. Pair citrus-forward drinks with a bright sea salt, add a smoky salt to a savory cocktail, or experiment with herbs and spices.

Simply run a citrus wedge around the rim of your glass, dip it into a small plate of salt, and pour. Try it with margaritas, palomas, lemonade mocktails, or sparkling citrus drinks.

What we recommend: We love keeping our Lemon Sea Salt and Lime Sea Salt on our bar cart alongside our Sriracha Salt for that something extra special at happy hour.

2. Sprinkle Salt on Watermelon

If you've never salted watermelon, this is your sign.

A small sprinkle of salt creates contrast with the natural sweetness of the fruit. Keep it simple or add lime and fresh mint for an easy summer snack.

You can also try salt on cantaloupe, peaches, pineapple, and mango.

What we recommend: Lemon Sea Salt and Lime Sea Salt go great with watermelon. Try our Chile Lime Salt for an added kick.

3. Add a Pinch to Your Summer Hydration

Sodium is an electrolyte that helps the body maintain fluid balance. When we sweat, we lose water and electrolytes, including sodium.

For long periods of sweating or strenuous activity, electrolyte replacement may be part of a hydration plan. For many people, regular meals and salt-containing foods also help replace electrolytes lost through sweat.

A small pinch of salt is sometimes added to homemade hydration drinks alongside water and citrus. Hydration needs are personal, so always consider your individual health needs and talk with a healthcare professional if you have questions about sodium intake.

4. Finish Your Dessert

Sweet and salty go together like ice cream on a summer day!

A tiny sprinkle of sea salt can add that something extra to your ice cream. Try a flavored salt that complements your favorite scoop for an easy dessert that feels a little more elevated.

(This also works on brownies, cookies, and chocolate desserts served with ice cream.)

What we recommend: Our Coarse Brazilian Sea Salt adds a satisfying, savory crunch to your favorite summer treats.

5. Season Your Summer Snack Board

Your next pool day snack board needs salt.

Add fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, crackers, and a simple dip. Then use a flavored sea salt or seasoning blend as the finishing touch.

Sprinkle seasoning over cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, fresh cheese, or finish a fruit dip.

What we recommend: Try our French Herb Sea Salt or Tuscan Farmhouse Blend for a savory addition to your snack boards.

Think Beyond the Salt Shaker
