The Salt Sisters Story

Nov 21, 2025

Sometimes the most life-changing journeys begin in the most unexpected places. For me, it started with a chance trip to a small spice shop in Savannah, Georgia. I wandered in out of curiosity, but I walked out with a spark that would grow into Salt Sisters.

Inside that shop, I discovered an array of salts that were beautiful, varied, and unlike the white table salt I had always known. Intrigued, I began asking the shop owner questions and then went home to dive headfirst into research. What I uncovered changed not only the way I looked at salt, but also how I approached food and health for myself and my family.

Like many of us, I had been taught the old message that salt is bad. But the deeper I dug, the clearer it became that the problem was not salt itself but the kind of salt we were consuming. Highly processed, refined salts had stripped away the very minerals our bodies need, leaving behind something unnatural and in many cases harmful.

Unrefined salt, on the other hand, is full of essential minerals like magnesium and potassium. Far from being the villain, unrefined salt actually supports health while enhancing flavor. This revelation lit a fire in me. I had always been passionate about cooking and creating healthy meals, and now I had found a way to bring both flavor and wellness into my kitchen and share it with others.

One of the voices who validated what I was learning was Dr. David Brownstein, a holistic physician and author of Salt: Your Way to Health. He wrote, “I was taught in medical school that salt = hypertension and that you could lower blood pressure by putting people on a low-salt diet. When I began using unrefined salt as part of a holistic regimen to correct mineral deficits, a fun thing happened. My patients with high blood pressure began improving.” His perspective echoed what I was experiencing firsthand: the right salt can actually be life-giving.

That personal journey eventually became Salt Sisters, the company I am so proud to lead today. What started as my own exploration grew into a lifestyle brand offering hand-crafted, gluten-free, MSG-free, preservative-free, and non-GMO products across the U.S. and Canada. At Salt Sisters, we are about more than just salt. We are about flavor without compromise. From gourmet salts to seasoning blends, spice rubs, dips, and more, our products are designed to help you bring zest and joy into your meals, whether it is a weeknight dinner or a holiday feast.

The name Salt Sisters has always been personal. The letters in “Salt” match the first letters of my four daughters: Sydney, Alexis, Lauren, and Taylor. They were my inspiration from the very beginning, reminding me why nourishing food and a healthy lifestyle matter so much. What started as inspiration has now come full circle. Sydney is part of the company, bringing her own gifts and perspective to this journey. Having her work alongside me is a joy and a reminder of the family roots at the heart of everything we do.

As Salt Sisters has grown, we have also made it a priority to care for the world around us. Our team is diligent about recycling and minimizing waste, and we have put practices in place to keep our footprint as small as possible. Through careful recycling and repurposing, we have reduced our waste to just a single garbage bag a week. Cardboard and paper from production are recycled weekly. Plastic bags are taken to our local grocery store for proper disposal. Packing peanuts from incoming shipments are donated to a local shipping company for reuse. These extra steps take effort, but to us, they are worth it. Just as we believe food should be natural, clean, and flavorful, we believe businesses should be responsible and mindful of their impact.

My research into salt and health has never stopped. I have become not only an advocate for my own health but also for the health of others. Through Salt Sisters, my hope is to share what I have learned: that cooking can be both flavorful and nourishing, that simple ingredients can transform meals, and that food is one of the best ways we can care for ourselves and our families.

Salt Sisters began with a spark of curiosity, but it has grown into something much bigger: a community of people who believe that flavor and wellness belong together. And that is a story I am grateful to keep writing every day.
